Socializing is definitely what it used to be in the past. Today, we can meet new people and even make friends without even going out of our homes. Online socializing is something that has evolved incredibly much in these last years. Of course that the e-mail together with other messenger programs have been used for a much longer time than social networking websites. Even so, the popularity of social networking sites has increased so much that today, some people don’t even use e-mail and messenger services as much as they use these websites. Many people are attracted towards using such websites mainly for socializing, but unlike e-mail and messenger services, with these social networks, one can also get in touch with new people.
Facebook is by far one of the best known social networking websites. Today, there are about 800 million Facebook users that are active. This website can be very useful for people who lost touch with friends from their past, mainly because unlike many other similar sites, Facebook strongly suggests its users to use their real names. This makes it easier for everyone to find their acquaintances by typing their names in the search bar. This means millions of people who actually expose themselves on a huge social network. It is important to be cautious and especially when it comes to teenagers or kids and Facebook, parents should always supervise the website’s use. There are lots of privacy options and a person can forbid everyone except their friends to see personal information. Also, the amount of information exposed is something that every user chooses. Because of this, it is not recommended for people who accept all friend requests to post information that could lead possible stalkers or criminals to their location and such. Mainly, it is best if one keeps their Facebook account private, and only use it to socialize with real life friends. Users really enjoy uploading photographs and writing their feelings in their statuses, mainly because other people are able to see them and comment or ‘like’ them.
While people are very comfortable with commenting on other people’s photos or status updates, relationships seem to become tighter between them, as everyone dares to say what they think. However, whether relationships are actually becoming stronger or not is a very sensitive matter, as there are users who actually forget what real life socializing really is like. Facebook is a good socializing tool, but people should remember that we need real life contact with our friends in order to keep good relationships.
